About three and a half years ago — in the first two months of his life — Timothy was diagnosed with Chronic Granulomatous Disease, also known as CDG. It is a rare and life threatening condition, and the only viable cure is a bone marrow transplant. While such a journey is no doubt overwhelming, the Song family found comfort and strength in their faith, their family, and their community.
Now, a year and a half later, Timothy is healthy thanks to a successful bone marrow transplant. To celebrate his recovery as well as appreciate the community of family and friends who supported the Songs throughout their journey, they hosted a party at La Mirada Regional Park. The party was inspired by Dr. Seuss’ Oh the Places You’ll Go! Jennifer brought the whimsy of this Dr. Seuss favorite to life with oversized balloons, bunting, and paper windmills. Tables were decorated with wooden train tracks and framed illustrations and quotes from the book as a nod to the journey the Songs have taken and the journey to come with Timothy’s recovery.
Children and adults were encouraged to participate in a game of bocce ball or horseshoe toss while enjoying tacos made to order, avocado salad, watermelon, and treats from the snack and dessert table. In addition to cake pops and cookies, guests cooled off in the sun with snow ice. Most importantly, Timothy took in the day and was happy to take part in the simple joys of running, laughing, eating, and playing. Here’s to celebrating life! Cheers!
